The media company cancels the controversial shock jock’s radio show one day after MSNBC pulled the plug on the TV simulcast.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — CBS announced late Thursday that it was ending Don Imus’ radio show. The move came following a public outcry regarding slurs he used in reference to the Rutgers’ women’s basketball team last week.
CBS, which carried Imus on 61 radio stations, had originally announced that it would suspend Imus for two weeks. But Wednesday, GE-owned cable network MSNBC announced that it would no longer broadcast the simulcast of Imus’ radio show.
CBS canceled Don Imus’ radio show Thursday following an uproar created by disparaging comments made about the Rutgers women’s basketball team.”From the outset, I believe all of us have been deeply upset and revulsed by the statements that were made on our air about the young women who represented Rutgers University in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship with such class, energy and talent,” said CBS CEO Leslie Moonves, in a statement.
