Hate Crime Bill Delayed Until September

Public opposition causes Senate to blink

Sen. Levin’s amendment to the Dept of Defense Reauthorization Bill (HR 1585) required troop withdrawal from Iraq. When the amendment was defeated earlier this week, Democrats decided to withdraw the entire arms bill. They will submit a revised version in September. This means Sen. Kennedy’s hate crimes amendment, SA 2067, won’t face a vote till fall.

This ominous legislation thus hangs over the heads of freedom-loving Americans all summer. But the blessing of delay allows us to keep pressuring our senators (especially in their home states) and continue exposing the freedom-stealing conspiracy behind hate crime laws.

Many thousands of patriots have protested this bill with calls to the senate. Dozens of influential conservative organizations have joined the fight and now generate unprecedented opposition. This is not a time for relaxation, but renewed struggle – speaking out against the hate bill in church, on talk radio, on the internet.

Let’s keep up the fight all summer and lick the hate bill in September!
