Nobody’s freedom is safe while the legislature is in session, and this session of Congress is no exception.
HR 2666 has been introduced in the House of Representatives, and would place your right to Keep and Bear arms in serious jeopardy. Provisions of this bill would:
1. Require a federal LICENSE to purchase or POSSESS any handgun of any sort, or any semi-automatic firearm with a detachable magazine. This would include ubiquitous “plinking” rifles like the Ruger 10/22 as well as firearms used in competitions such as the semi-auto-only Springfield M1-A or venerable M1 Garand. This license would be in addition to any State licensing requirements.
2. The license will (initially) cost $25, and must be carried at all times. It will contain the name, address, date of birth, thumb print, and photograph of the license holder. The license will be required for any firearms purchase.
3. All transaction records related to firearms purchases would thenceforth be delivered to the Federal Government for indefinite retention withing 48 hours.
4. ALL individual transfers of firearms between individuals will be ILLEGAL. All transfers will be forced to go through a gun dealer for a FEE.
5. “Safe Storage” will be mandated – whether or not you have a child in your home. It will be illegal for you to maintain a firearm in an adequate state of readiness for defense against home invasion.
6. Training will be required, and the nature, costs and requirements of that training will be up to the whim of the Attorney General.
And that’s just the beginning. It should go without saying that this legislation is an affront to the Constitution and the intent of our Founding Fathers.
Contact your Representative as soon as possible, and instruct him or her to kill this bill in committee, or on the floor of the House if it makes it through the committee, but that either way, INFRINGEMENTS of the PEOPLE’S RIGHT to KEEP AND BEAR ARMS will not be tolerated!
