“Ron Paul has winning issues, namely ending the Iraq War as soon as possible and enforcing immigration laws.”
by Charles Coughlin
Ron Paul has raised five million dollars in the third quarter. This is a 114 percent increase over the amount raised in the second quarter. Ron Paul is the only major Republican candidate, who has increased his fund-raising from the second quarter to the third quarter. (Fred Thompson wasn’t officially running during the second quarter.)
Ron Paul has won 11 straw polls and placed in the top three in all the straw polls with just a few exceptions. Only Thompson and Romney have come close to Paul’s straw poll successes.
Most of the “celebrity” candidates got a big rush of donations at the start of their campaign. McCain got a big pile of money at the start and his donations have been dropping off ever since. Giuliani got a HUGE pile of donations early on and his fund-raising has been dropping off.Romney didn’t have the celebrity status of McCain or Giuliani and has had to keep dipping into his bank account to stay in the top tier. His fund raising also dropped badly in the third quarter.
Ron Paul wasn’t that well-known to begin with. He started off with little money and is the only candidate who is INCREASING his ability to raise money while everyone else in the GOP is slipping.
Fred Thompson just entered the race, but he didn’t get a big flood of donations like Giuliani and McCain did in their early days even though he’s a TV star and one would think he’s definitely a celebrity. Maybe he entered way too late. Maybe he isn’t as popular as the media thinks he is.
Ron Paul has winning issues, namely ending the Iraq War as soon as possible and enforcing immigration laws. All the other candidates seem to be clones of each other with relatively fuzzy positions on immigration (and often bad voting records on it) and the same pro-war mentality as George W. Bush, who has spent a lot of time at a 28 percent approval rating.
Ron Paul is the only candidate with momentum and a strong ability to bring in votes from Libertarians and anti-war Democrats. In fact, if Ron Paul wins the Republican primary, his victory in November 2008 against Hillary or Obama is virtually certain. Many on the Democrat side are unhappy about the failure of Hillary and Obama to pledge to end the war —even by the year 2013. Hillary and Obama both voted for the illegal alien amnesty bill. So the two top Democrats are both zero-for-two on the two biggest issues of the election.
Paul needs to put this money to work and start running nation-wide commercials. It only takes ten seconds to say “Hi, I’m Ron Paul and I want to enforce immigration law, finish building the border fence and withdraw our troops from Iraq as soon as possible.” Paul needs to break through the media iron curtain. He has gotten a flurry of good publicity by surprising his enemies by raising five million dollars in one quarter, but he needs to go directly to the people, the way Ronald Reagan used to when dealing with a hostile liberal media.
Side Note: The GOP appears to be getting scared of Ron Paul. The rules for voting in Republican primaries are changing in many states. Some states are requiring that primary voters should register as Republican as early as October 12th. Fortunately, it’s not hard to change your registration simply go to the website here and follow the instructions to change your registration.
