Secretary for Department of Security.
The BNP takes the personal security and welfare of its members seriously and last weekend the BNP’s Department of Security ran an internal training session for new recruits into the Department, as well as refresher training for experienced members. Twenty people attended the weekend, all of which I can safely say had no trouble sleeping Sunday night when they got home!
With the introductions over from male and female delegates from all over the country, a great camaraderie and atmosphere soon developed at the training site.
We started the training with how to conduct a full vehicle search and identify potential improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and what action to take on discovering something suspicious. We then moved onto personal searches, as implemented at meetings and conferences. This included the importance of developing excellent communication skills while dressing and presenting ourselves smartly.
We then moved onto dealing with close protection and positioning and how to move to and from vehicles in convoy, this subject we then practiced along with the on foot formations. We then moved on to how to deal with varying degrees of hostility and attack situations which included lots of role-play; much to the delight of the more experienced personnel who played the aggressors. Some of the guys should have been nominated for golden globe awards for their ‘straight to the point’ acting skills which helped delegates to focus on the worst case scenario.Bulldog
After training we finished the day with what has to be one of the best team and friendship building exercises ever, that old favourite, British Bulldog. Due to the ground being nice and soft we opted for the ‘no rules’ version which resulted in one of the biggest laughs I’ve had in a long time.
After dinner, which was once again to a standard previously unknown at a security training session, we relaxed to chew the fat, discuss the day’s training and compare grazes and bumps. Not sure about the others, but I fell into my tent pretty early and slept like a log; great stuff.
Sunday morning and up with the birds and straight into the training. The first area we covered was how to use a radio correctly, which is not as easy as it looks. However, those that were new to this grasped it very quickly indeed, which is testimony to the quality of the recruits that the Department is attracting.
We had a fully qualified and very experienced NHS nurse to give us a first aid presentation which included a practical cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) practice for everyone.
I then went onto how to lift a conscious casualty with two people using the ‘wrist grab’ method, which always works well in theory until we tried to lift a particular man-mountain Department member, which nearly resulted in me needing a chiropractor.
Motivation
To finish the weekend, we brought together various aspects of the areas we had covered and had a mock attack exercise in the countryside. It was clear to all present, that everyone had bonded very well together and you could see the motivation as they worked hard to complete the objective which they did with flying colours.
I know I also speak for the other instructors when I say that it will be a privilege to work with these new additions to our team in the future.
Just like the broader Party, the Department of Security is growing in both quality and professionalism, as we look to the future and counter the hazards we face together, in Britain’s biggest family.
