Yet another popular Mexican musician has met a violent death in just six days. The 33 year-old José Luis Aquino Lavariega, a member of the “Los Condes” band, was found beneath a bridge in Oaxaca, in southern Mexico. He was discovered with a plastic bag over his head, while his feet and hands were bound. According to various Mexican media, his battered body was found December 5th at a place called El Sapo, “The Toad”. His father, Julio Efrén Aquino Hernández identified his body.
On December 3rd the tortured body of popular singer Sergio Gomez was found after he had been missing overnight, apparently on a jaunt to resort-town Puerto Vallarta. According to the attorney general’s office of Michoacan on Mexico’s Pacific coast, Gomez was subjected to a severe beating, while burns were found on his legs. He also showed signs of asphixia. A female singer, Zayda Pena, survived an attempt on her life only to be shot to death on December 1st whilst recuperating in hospital.
