On a national television show, the “Reverend” Al Sharpton said that former President Bill Clinton should “shut up” and stop making statements that many http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=3137 have said are “racist.” The statement is likely to play into Clinton campaign strategic efforts to sideline rival Barack Obama as “the black candidate.”
In an appearance on the ABC show “The View,” Sharpton said that Clinton should end his “race tinged rhetoric.” While Sharpton did not specify which statements from Clinton he found disagreeable, many observers, not least former Clinton strategist http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=3144, have said that the Hillary Clinton campaign is hoping to widen the racial divide to scare white voters into supporting her. Many of her husband Bill’s statements have been carefully calibrated to draw black condemnation and make his point for him.From the Clinton perspective, blacks have responded well to the Clinton tactic, raising the specter of the “mau mauing” many whites see from blacks in their own daily experience, while the overwhelming black support for Barack Obama may potentially sideline Obama as “the black candidate.”
One of Clinton’s statements was a backhanded compliment of Barack’s campaign, which he compared to Jesse Jackson’s Presidential attempts in 1984 and 1988. Couched as a “comparison,” the intent was clearly to force whites to remember how objectionable the shakedown artist Jackson is, as well as the black special interest bloc he represents. Black objections to Clinton’s statements only help to reinforce Clinton’s plans.
Jackson himself reportedly spoke with both Obama and Clinton in the wake of Obama’s Phyrric South Carolina win, “urging” them to cool their rhetoric.
