An American http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=2235 was raped while working for the Peace Corps in rural Mpumalanga.
The 31-year-old woman had to cancel her flight to the US last week to attend the court case.
“She was supposed to fly back to the USA but will have to remain in http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=2693 until the case is finalised,” said Mpumalanga police spokesperson Superintendent Abie Khoabane on Monday.
The woman had arrived in http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=1965 and Aids and to help develop rural communities.
She was raped in Bushbuckridge last Sunday after attending a Shangaan traditional dance called muchongolo in Rolle.She had been staying and working at the Hlengelo homebased care centre in nearby Dwarsloop and was waiting for a taxi at about 18:30 when a man offered her a lift in his bakkie.
She accepted, but he drove into bushes and raped her, while threatening her with a broken beer bottle.
He then drove her back to the main road and she was able to escape when he stopped at a four way stop.
She flagged down another car at the four way stop and the motorist, who recognised the suspect, took her to the Mhala police station.
