Georgian Jewish oligarch http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=3435 died of complications from severe heart disease, a UK coroner’s inquest has been told. An autopsy carried out by pathologist Dr Ashley Fegan Earl found that the billionaire, a lifelong heavy smoker, had suffered from “significant natural disease … of a severity that could have resulted in a sudden and unexplained collapse and death at any time.” According to testimony at the inquest, Patarkatsishvili had no radioactive or other poison in his system when he died.
The tycoon was living in a mansion in Surrey, England, surrounded by 120 bodyguards. He was in self imposed exile after a “soft coup” attempt against his former allies in the Georgian government failed. Patarkatsishvili had helped to install the current government in the 2003 Rose Revolution in league with other oligarchs, international financiers like George Soros and NGOs, falling out with the Tblisi leaders late in 2007.
Patarkatsishvili’s death was immediately labelled “suspicious” by the http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=2639 of the Putin government, which has rolled back oligarch corruption in Russia. The oligarchs, mainly ethnic Jews, had seized much of the Soviet economy in the Boris Yeltsin “privatization” process after the collapse of the USSR. Vladimir Putin has carried out an aggressive campaign against the oligarchs, either jailing them, divesting them of their ill gotten wealth, or driving them into exile in Israel and Western Europe.
Shortly before his death, Patarkatsishvili released tapes proving what he called a Georgian plot to assassinate him with the help of Chechen hitmen. The murder was to be blamed on the Kremlin.
News of the cause of Patarkatsishvili’s death has not stopped oligarchs from engineering new protests in Georgia. On Friday mobs estimated at 20,000 strong rallied against President Mikhail Saakashvili, wielding posters of Patarkatsishvili and clad in matching white scarves, the trademark of the latest of the “color revolutions” which have also swept out allies of the Kremlin in Serbia, Ukraine and Kyrgyzstan. Similar attempts have failed in Belarus and Burma/Myanmar.
In Tblisi, “opposition leader” Koba Davitashvili shouted that “Badri Patarkatsishvili’s death in suspicious circumstances has given rise to suspicion that he has been killed.” Now that the evidence is in, the international “mainstream” media is honing the message. “I think that even if Badri died of a heart attack, it happened because of the accusations against him,” Reuters says one man charged.
It is not immediately clear just what Mikhail Saakashvili, once the golden boy of the oligarchs who has carried out an aggressive policy against the Kremlin, did to incur the wrath of his owners. But his regime is definately in their crosshairs, with media “experts” predicting that his regime is “doomed,” despite winning 52.21% of the vote in elections in January, forced by the coup attempt. Patarkatsishvili, who ran against him, polled a mere 7.1% of the votes.
The oligarch’s “opposition” plans to use the death of Patarkatsishvili to renew the protest, announcing they will set up tents outside the Georgian parliament as a focus for new unrest.
Georgia, as the world’s second oldest Christian nation, has traditionally been a close ally of Orthodox Russia, and a linchpin of Moscow’s influence in the Caucasus, a hotbed of Islamist violence and strategically vital. Moscow’s closeness to Georgia is shown in the fact that Joseph “Koba” http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=3331 was a Georgian as was his henchman, the savage butcher Lavrenty Beria. Eduard Shevardnadze, the Georgian ruler overthrown in the Rose Revolution, had been the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Soviet Union from 1985 to 1990, and may well have succeeded Mikhail Gorbachev had the Soviet Union survived. Western governments and special interests have allied with various groups in the region to undermine Russian influence, and Boris Berezovsky has been accused of aiding the savage Chechen separatists who have carried out a brutal civil war against Kremlin forces and launched terrorist attacks inside Russia against civilians.
