Mark Brener caught with Israeli passport, 600K in cash

The government alleges that Mark Brener ran the high dollar Emperors Club VIP call girl ring, catering to top end international clients from the worlds of business and politics. Concerns about Eliot Spitzer’s suspicious financial dealings led the feds to Brener’s door. Originally suspecting that Spitzer was concealing payoffs, the government rolled on Brener’s operation when they found out Spitzer, a repeat customer, was actually attempting to hide payments to Emperors Club prostitutes. Brener, along with Tanya Hollander, Cecil Suwal and Temeka Rachelle Lewis, face conspiracy charges related to federal prostitution laws.
Meanwhile, even though Eliot Spitzer resists calls to resign, his political career lies in ruins. He will forever be known as “Client #9,” the ID given to him by the feds.Ironically, Spitzer, brought down by financial shenanigans, made his mark as a scourge of white collar criminals real and imagined, earning the nickname “Eliot Ness” after the Prohibition era crime fighter. Spitzer, also went after at least two prostitution rings when he was New York’s Attorney General.
Calling himself a legal “steamroller,” Spitzer seemed to relish power. As a staunch liberal partisan, Spitzer was attacked for using his office to selectively prosecute prolife groups that offered alternatives to abortion, allegedly on behalf of abortion groups, which form part of his support coalition. Both efforts were defeated after widespread public outcry led to pressure on him to abandon his initiatives. Commentator Taki Theodoracopulos was scathing. “The guy’s the phoniest of all the phonies ever to hold public office,” he said. “He went after innocent people, ruined names and reputations for no reason except to serve his own.”
The Spitzer imbroglio is the second recent sex farce with an Israeli connection to engulf governors in the region. In 2004, New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey resigned after Golan Cipel, allegedly McGreevey’s Israeli male “lover,” threatened to sue the governor for sexual harassment. McGreevey had earlier come under criticism for appointing Cipel, whose only qualifications were as a “poet” and former sailor in the Israeli navy, as New Jersey’s “Homeland Security Czar.” As a foreigner, Cipel was not even qualified for a security clearance.
Other history surrounds Eliot Spitzer’s sexcapades. Apparently a hopeless romantic, Spitzer’s last encounter with an Emperors Club courtesan occurred at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel in downtown Washington, DC on the day before Valentine’s Day. A famous 1996 photograph of Monica Lewinsky hugging Bill Clinton was taken at the Mayflower, which also hosted Lewinsky when she testified at Clinton’s impeachment hearings in 1999. She spoke with congressmen inside the Mayflower’s Presidential Suite, which costs $5,000 per night and is on the same floor as Spitzer’s room. Famous FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover lunched at the Mayflower daily, which Harry Truman once called home and where Franklin Delano Roosevelt prepared his “We have nothing to fear but fear itself” speech. Sadly for Eliot Spitzer, the Mayflower is the place where he not only made history, but became history as well.
When Eliot Spitzer steps down or is impeached his replacement is ready. Lieutenant Governor David A. Paterson would be the first legally blind governor in US history and the first black man to lead New York. Paterson is said to be even more to the left than Spitzer, and an outspoken fan of affirmative action and other racial quota programs. He is currently embroiled in a lawsuit for allegedly dismissing a white staff photographer and appointing a black replacement, solely on racial grounds. Oddly, Paterson’s partisans seem to have jumped the gun. According to reports, the state’s website put Paterson’s name at the top, listed as “Governor,” shortly after the Spitzer story broke.
