The suspect in a http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=1021 Sunday morning where a woman was shot and her friend abducted and later killed was released from prison less than a month ago.
The body of 62-year-old MaryEllen Welsh was found on Old Waterbury Road in Bristol near Rockwell Park early this morning, police said. She had been shot, police said.
She was at the house at 14 Woodhaven Drive visiting Carol Larese when Williams broke in. Larese, who turns 66 on Tuesday, was shot during the http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=967, but is expected to recover from her injuries, police said.
Police have charged Leslie Williams, 31, in connection with the home invasion and are preparing a warrant charging him in Welsh’s homicide, police said.
He faces a single count each of criminal attempt to commit murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree kidnapping with a firearm, first-degree burglary, first-degree assault, criminal use of a fire arm, criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit and third degree larceny.Williams was discharged March 4 from Osborn Correctional facility after serving 8-years for a second-degree sexual assault conviction, said Brian Garnett, spokesman for the Department of Correction.
He is serving 10 years of probation.
Williams was denied parole in 2006, Garnett said. He was issued four disciplinary tickets for making threats in 2005 and 2006 and security tampering in 2006 during the prison term, Garnett said. Williams also violated program provisions 1997.
Williams was arrested by Waterbury police in 1998 for sexually assaulting a five-year-old female that was a member of his family, according to Waterbury Police Lt. Christopher Corbett.
Corbett said he was originally charged with first-degree sexual assault but eventually plead guilty to second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor. Corbett said Williams has a long history with the Waterbury police department including multiple arrests for burglaries and possession of narcotics, but nothing involving a gun or any other kind of weapon.
