University of North Dakota, Grand Forks students are alarmed about the impending visit of an admitted terrorist to their http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=4001.
Bill Ayers, who is now a Distinguished Professor of Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, was a member of the Weather Underground, the domestic terrorist group of the 1960s and 1970s which carried out bombings of government and private buildings in the 1960s and 70s, and whose members participated in the http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=2360 and a civilian. He has been invited to speak to a leftist campus group on the topic “Freedom Now!”
The group inviting Ayers is called Students for a Democratic Society; in point of fact, today’s “SDS” has no direct organizational connection to the “original” New Left SDS. They are rather more like historical re-enactors reviving a Hollywood image of “The Sixties.”
Ayers, who lived as a fugitive from 1970 to 1981, refuses to apologize for his terror campaign, saying “I don’t regret setting bombs; I feel we didn’t do enough.” Ironically, the interview was published on September 11, 2001.The SDS of the Ayers era consisted mainly of spoiled white and Jewish upper middle class Baby Boomer kids, which even structured conferences so as not to conflict with Jewish holidays and planned “actions” to coincide with school breaks.
Ayers himself is a child of privilege; his daddy was Chairman and CEO of Commonwealth Edison and he attended an exclusive private school, Lake Forest Academy, before going on to the University of Michigan and deciding that an upper class lifestyle was not his bag.
The Weather Underground was originally called the Weathermen, after a line from a Bob Dylan song, until they ruled the name “sexist.” And just as working people had hardly any idea who Dylan even was, the SDS had no impact on the working class they presumed to speak for. In a book on the group, a rare blue collar SDS member who worked on a dock talks about asking a co-worker, “What do you think of the Weathermen?” “What, are you nuts? Sometimes they’re right, sometimes they’re wrong.” The man thought he was being asked about television weather reports. (The web’s main weather news website is, ironically, WeatherUnderground.com).
The police murders mentioned in the article above happened partly because of the SDS/Weatherman disconnect from the white working class. The New Left actually harbored a contempt for white workers, calling them a “labor aristocracy” that had been “bought off” by capitalism and “benefited” from the “exploitation” of nonwhites, especially blacks. Blue collar whites had a “stake” in “racism,” according to the analysis, but such sweeping dismissals are easy to do for people who have never punched a clock. As a result, the New Left pandered slavishly to “Third World movements” like the http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=3347 were allowed to slap women around and demean them, for example, “because they were black.” And the Panthers’ racist rants against “crackers” and “honkies” was okay: the New Left hated white people too.
Eventually, whole sections of the New Left began to look for “black leadership,” which they felt was essential to the “revolution.” One such group was the Symbionese Liberation Army, who recruited a psychopathic black convict to “lead” them into kidnapping Patty Hearst, and for most of the SLA an eventual death at the hands of the LAPD’s SWAT team. The Weathermen had a similar epiphany about “black leadership,” and Kathy Boudin, Judith Alice Clark, David Gilbert and others joined in a plot with the Black Liberation Army, a Black Panther splinter group. In 1981 the gang robbed a Brinks armored car, and two cops and a guard were slain. Despite pleading guilty, Boudin, a daughter of a prominent Jewish leftist family, was paroled in 2003. While she was in prison, Bill Ayers and his partner Bernardine Dohrn (who is now keeping it groovy as an Associate Professor of Law at Northwestern University School of Law and Director of its Children and Family Justice Center), adopted the child of Boudin and David Gilbert.
Most other Weatherman alumni are not only on the street, but many have high paying positions in academia, and in books and films are either lionized as heroes or excused as “misguided” but fundamentally decent people.
Now imagine the situation if white terrorists fighting for politically incorrect goals were involved in such things. Would they ever get out of prison, let alone be granted professorships? Would they have “defense committees” attracting luminaries of stage and screen? Would they receive admiring interviews, be invited to speak to campus groups and have their books published by Madison Avenue houses and reviewed in the New York Times?
This approach to http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=2497 is seen repeatedly in the courts, academia and media, dominated as they are by aging Baby Boomers. Recently, a group of “eco-terrorists” who are part of the anti-“fascist” fringe were given hard sentences under mandatory federal guidelines, after causing multi-millions in damage. But their sentencing was marked by sympathy from the judge, who lauded their views, if not their methods. Even Arthur Bremer, who shot and nearly killed Governor George Wallace, earned parole; after all, Wallace was “evil,” a “racist.”
Former SLA moll Kathleen Ann Soliah went on the run for 23 years and changed her name to Sara Jane Olson after the SLA attempted to bomb cop cars and murdered Myrna Opsahl, a church lady depositing her congregation’s offerings when she was gunned down at the Crocker National Bank in Carmichael, California in 1975. Olson/Soliah was collared living an upper middle class existence as a doctor’s wife, but despite the seriousness of her charges she was allowed to plea bargain to greatly lessened charges in 1999. In March (2008), she was paroled, and would have gone free if not for public outcry. Absurdly blaming her release on a “clerical error,” California put her back in jail, but even so she is expected to be freed in less than a year. (Long before Soliah/Olson’s arrest, Patty Hearst mentioned that when she was an SLA hostage SLA “guerilla” Emily Harris shrugged off the death of Myrna Opsahl, calling Opsahl a “bourgeois pig” because she was, as Soliah/Olson would become, a doctor’s wife).
Even Wesley Cook (AKA Mumia Abu Jamal), a former Black Panther on death row for the 1981 slaying of a (white) Philadelphia policeman, has been kept alive by a combination of far-left histrionics, and the cowardice of legal officialdom, which doesn’t want to see a riot in Philadelphia if the cop-killer is executed. In various outrageous displays, Jamal has been allowed to present taped speeches to various graduating classes and has even had programs on federal government-owned PBS radio stations. A series of books, pamphlets, interviews, films and demonstrations have appeared in his defense, while pro bono legal filings continue to clutter up the system. An appeals court recently found that he was entitled to a new death penalty hearing.
While Bill Ayers is a fringe character, his generational compatriots, the leftists and liberals who won the culture war of “The Sixties,” dictate much of the social policy, discourse and influence the interpretation of history. By seeing today’s takes on “The Sixties,” one would think that all of America was in the streets opposing segregation and the Vietnam War, when in fact segregation was ended in the courts and legislatures, and Nixon’s 1968 election was a landslide. But the takeover of the means of information by partisans of globalism and multiculturalism has helped to transform America in the course of barely three decades, and a situation where their view of the world has become “http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=3929."
One thing is astonishing about Bill Ayers. He is reportedly close to Barack Obama, a connection that got some minor media play and then sank like a rock as a story. But the connection says a lot about Obama, which blue collar Democrats are only just now waking up to: the man is allied with a whole movement of overlapping special interests, from Marxists to black racists, that mean nothing but harm to America. With the help of the mass media Obama has been able to obscure his grassroots base, but such things as the http://www.wvwnews.net/story.php?id=3437 of extremists he fronts for has become.
