“By what stretch of sick logic could the candidate be responsible for what his clergy said and did?” (It logically happened the other way around. — Ed.)
Dear Mr. Greeley:
Your essay in the Sun Times for 7/11/08 missed a salient point, and that is US Senator Obama’s relatively free use of demeaning epithets toward the diverse white American peoples.
In 2004, he sprang the vicious libel “acting white” on an unsuspecting nation, and pretended it applied only to young black American students. However, the “white” in the “acting white” made it clear that it was a major slur against the diverse white American peoples. No apology has been forthcoming.
In 2008, he gave us “white resentment” which was a cold-blooded label that reduced all our emotions and feelings to the Obama trademarked libel of one emotion. Trust me, the diverse white American peoples have a very wide variety of feelings: love, grief, sorrow, happiness, etc. No apology for this nastiness has been forthcoming.
The day following the above remark, he gave us “typical white American” which shows both his ignorance and his racially-focused vocabulary. No apology has been forthcoming.
Consider what would happen to a white American presidential candidate who said “acting black,” or “Asian resentment,” or “typical Latino.” It would be a national embarrassment, and you know it.
Drop the pretence that what racism there is in this contest is from Obama’s opponents, and at least notice Obama’s own racism straight from his own mouth.
