Black AIDS

Once again, the so-called “extremists” were right. Avoid AIDS.

At Spruce Street Baptist Church, 1 of Nashville’s oldest and most established predominantly African-American congregations, the Rev. Raymond Bowman showed his congregation how easy it was to take an HIV test.

He just opened his mouth and swabbed.

The church and 26 other predominantly African-American churches around Nashville participated in free HIV testing in June to show the need for every adult to know their status.

It’s part of a Metro Nashville Health Department effort to harness the power and influence of black churches to slow the spread of HIV.

While only 13% of the U.S. population is black, black men and women account for more than 49% of AIDS cases. (Source)
