Melissa had left a local nightclub that night after a drunken argument with her boyfriend, and was so intoxicated that police drove her home. But Melissa left and was walking when the three blacks, Gardner, Mack and Williams drove up and offered her drugs in exchange for sex. In her addled condition, Melissa did what generations of white girls have been programmed to do by the mass media and school systems: she trusted the blacks. Getting in their car sealed her doom.
Back at the trailer park, the blacks began to sodomize Melissa, who started to resist. Other blacks from the trailer park had heard that Gardner, Mack and Williams had “captured a white woman.” Three more came by and raped Melissa, while two of their black girlfriends sat close by and did nothing to stop it.
All that television watching had taught the rapists something about the new science of DNA. Throwing her in their shower, the blacks used a brush to scrub Melissa’s body with hydrogen peroxide and bleach, then made her pump the fluids into her own body while the gang discussed how they would kill her. Handcuffed and blindfolded, Melissa was dragged to a vehicle and driven off.
According to testimony, Melissa somehow got out of the cuffs and made an escape attempt. It was futile, though: Joseph Martin Luther Gardner leaned over the front seat and blasted two bullets into her face at point black range. On a road outside Charleston, Melissa was shot again, three bullets into her face and another in her arm.
Melissa was found barely clinging to life, and soon died. She was so badly mutilated that police were unable to identify her body for four days. When the cops captured seven of those involved, they found a “crudely written racial diatribe” about blacks being “justified in seeking revenge” against whites for alleged past crimes. But Gardner had gone on the lam. He was finally hunted down in Philadelphia in 1994, convicted, and sentenced to death. He was not charged with a hate crime, and the SPLC is not suing anybody.
Such “payback” crimes, usually violent and often sexual, are a very common phenomenon in black on white crime.
