“We got four guys on him right now.”
An armed robbery suspect faced a judge Saturday morning. The man spentseveral days in the hospital after he was shot in the arm with his owngun during a Price Hill holdup.
Shortly after 9:00 am Wednesdaymorning …police say a man, identified as 21 year-old Ahmad Parker, came into the D&R Movers office … pointed a gun … and demandedmoney.
Raymond Palma, Owner, D&R Moving: “I was sittingright there in that chair and he come in the door and asked everybodyto empty their pockets. There’s 15 people in this whole little area andhe’s got the gun pointed directly towards me. Well, he walks down, takes the gun and puts it to the side of my head and is tellingeverybody to empty their pockets.”
Palma says he started walking towards the door … and the suspect took a quick glance to see if anyone was following.
“Whenhe went like that, that was the window of opportunity opening for me.And I grabbed his wrists, took it straight to the ground. When I donethat he’s firing the gun off trying to shoot it. He shot himself onceand the other bullet, obviously, grazed my brother.”
“That’s where everything took place right there.”
Palma says he got the suspect in a headlock …the gun went flying … and then a bunch of others from the business piled on.
“We got him, he’s held down. We got four guys on him right now.”
“AndI’ll be honest, if the cops didn’t get there when they did, that fellaought to thank them, because the police saved his life.”
Policesay the suspect ended up with a gunshot wound in the leg … a bulletin his arm … and two broken arms …presumably from the tussle.
“Normally, police advise it’s not the best idea in the world to go after somebodywho has a gun, and after thinking about it for a minute, the storeowner agrees. But he says, under the circumstances, he did what wasright and it turned out okay in the end.”
“I had him in a headlock, got him to the ground. Yep, he left in an ambulance.”
Parker had surgery and was released from the hospital Saturday with his arm in a sling. He faces charges of armed robbery.
The business owner’s brother was also grazed by a bullet … but police say he refused medical treatment.
