FBI Investigates “Hate Mail” Threats In Upper Manhattan
Manhattan lawmakers and community leaders presented the FBI with racist letters sent to Hispanic business owners.
Overthe past year, restaurant owners in Washington Heights and Inwood saythey’ve received a barrage of hate mail, all containing threats such as”Stop wrecking my USA,” “Speak english” and “We don’t want you in ourcommunity.”
Advocates say it’s the letter writer who is out of place in the community.

“We’renot going to have our rights taken away because people from downtownwho can’t afford their rents now want to come to our community and tellus what we need to do and send hate letters like this,” said FernandoMateo of Hispanics Across America. “You know what? We are not going toback away, we are not going to chicken out.”
The targetedbusiness owners say they have called for police protection. The FBItells NY1 it takes these threats seriously and is investigating.
