Somebody thought it would be great fun to shoot arrows into a defenseless horse. The outrage is boiling over. — Ed.
A former horse trainer has been the latest to offer a reward in an arrow attack on a mare in Fayette County.
Larry Harvey of Kennesaw said he is offering $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
His reward brings the total to $7,000 for any information leading toan arrest and conviction of whomever shot arrows at an 8-year-old marein Brooks.
The horse is now recovering after surgery to remove the three arrows– one that pierced the middle of its spine, an area below its eye andone that traveled through its neck, Fayette sheriff’s investigatorBrent Rowan said.
The nonprofit Georgia Outdoor Network is offering a $1,000 rewardfor any information leading to an arrest and conviction, and theAtlanta Humane Society announced Monday that it was adding $5,000 tothe reward.
Rowan said someone was driving along Banks Town Road in Brooks onSunday and spotted the horse with arrows sticking out of its body.Sheriff’s deputies and a veterinarian responded, Rowan said.
The vet spent four hours working on Misty, and told WSB-TV the mare could still suffer from bone damage.
Neighbor Rachel Byrd told WSB she was driving by and spotted Mistystanding on her owner’s farm. She slowed down and noticed the arrowssticking out of her.
“She was scared to death. She wouldn’t let us catch her. You couldtell in her eyes that she was in a lot of pain, and she was veryscared,” Byrd told WSB.
