Four teenage girls were recovering Thursday night, with three still in the hospital after that horrifying end to an afternoon shopping trip on Long Island.
CBS 2 HD was there when one of the girl’s family members finally met the man who witnessed the brutal hit and run — and jumped into action.
The hero and the grateful father met with an instant embrace.
“Wow. God, thank you,” Anthony Centamore said.
Centamore’s daughter Stephanie was one of four teen-aged victims of a hit-and-run driver who was chased down and captured by Steve Loverde on Wednesday night.”Just what you did is unbelievable,” Centamore said.
“It was nothing, nothing special. I think you would of done the same,” Loverde said.
“I mean you seen … seen them roll up … roll up on the car,” Centamore said.
“I saw everything,” Loverde responded. “Last night, I didn’t sleep.”
Seared in his memory are the screams, the shattered windshield, the blood and the fleeing motorist.
“He hit two of them, were on the ground and then keep coming across the intersection with two of more girls on the hood of the car and they were just screaming. The school books are still clutched in their hands and papers were flying all over the place,” Loverde said.
