Or not.
The Internet has grown in size and ease of use in the past decade to the point were its no longer a reflection of our society but a driving part of it. Considered a novelty only decades ago, the Net is now a ubiquitous part of modern society used for everything from friendly interaction, to business transaction, to employment, to news and politics. There isn’t a single facet of modern life that isn’t only reflected by the medium but effected by it. As the Internet has emerged as a medium for business transaction corporations have sought to adapt to the new dynamic of the system and wherever possible adapt the system dynamic to suite their needs.
Corporate news sites regularly report on news taken from the Internet, weather it be popular memes, blogs, or political efforts. Many times these stories are reported while simultaneously criticizing the medium itself. Corporations have also seen the merits of website ownership beyond an extension of traditional business, such as Rupert Murdoch, owner of Fox and The New York Post, purchasing the popular social networking site MySpace.
