‘White Lives Matter’ Banners and Union Jacks Held Up Across Edinburgh

America’s Scottish cousins step up to the plate and say to hell with it.

The banners have been held up across Edinburgh and other parts of the UK today

Controversial banners that read ‘White Lives Matter’ have been held up by people today in the capital.

Pictures have emerged of individuals holding the banners outside Edinburgh Castle earlier on today.

Individuals were also photographed holding up the banners alongside Union Jacks and Scotland flags at the Scottish Parliament building and at Bute House which is the official residence of Nicola Sturgeon.

Rumours are circulating online that the banners were held up to ‘celebrate indigenous day.’*

*(NOTE: That would mean White Scottish indigenous day. –ed.)

It comes as the Black Lives Matter movement picked up momentum across the globe this year after the death of George Floyd, a black man who was filmed being killed at the hands of police in America.

The Black Lives Matter moment has seen people taking to the streets and protesting to highlight issues of systematic racism and fight for black human rights.

The ‘White Lives Matter’ banners in Edinburgh mirrored similar banners that were held up across the UK today, including in London.
