Ournation was founded on values twinning personal initiative with mutualco-operation. From the Plymouth Colony to Andrew Jackson’s Reforms, tothe Homestead Act to the New Deal, Americans have known that we all arebetter off when we recognize basic standards of social justice. Butthanks to globalism, dog-eat-dog economics has resulted in offshoring,outsourcing, the destruction of unions, and the gutting of the USeconomy. We advocate economic nationalism, which places the economy atthe service of the nation; we believe that the welfare of our peopleshould supersede all other things, including the ability ofmultinational corporations to exploit or ignore our people forunbridled profits.
Washington on National Economy
TheNorth, in an unrestrained intercourse with the South, protected by theequal laws of a common government, finds in the productions of thelatter great additional resources of maritime and commercial enterpriseand precious materials of manufacturing industry. The South, in thesame intercourse, benefiting by the agency of the North, sees itsagriculture grow and its commerce
expand. Turning partly into its own channels the seamen of the North,it finds its particular navigation invigorated; and, while itcontributes, in different ways, to nourish and increase the generalmass of the national navigation, it looks forward to the protection ofa maritime strength, to which itself is unequally adapted. The East, ina like intercourse with the West, already finds, and in the progressiveimprovement of interior communications by land and water, will more andmore find a valuable vent for the commodities which it brings fromabroad, or manufactures at home. The West derives from the Eastsupplies requisite to its growth and comfort, and, what is perhaps ofstill greater consequence, it must of necessity owe the secureenjoyment of indispensable outlets for its own productions to theweight, influence, and the future maritime strength of the Atlanticside of the Union, directed by an indissoluble community of interest asone nation.
