“Look, you’ve already voted for this thing once, soessentially you’re screwed. Changing your vote isn’t going to help younow .. the voters are going to remember your yes vote. We’ll make sureof it. So go ahead and vote with us again and then someday you can’reap the political benefits of actually passing a law.'”

It has been a while since I have agreed with Howard Dean. Well, here we go: dogs and cats sleeping together. Dean had a sobering message for Democrats on this healthcare vote. He says, “The plan, as it comes from the Senate, hangs out every Democrat who’s running for office to dry — including the president, in 2012, because it makes him defend a plan that isn’t in effect essentially yet.”
I guess Dean just hasn’t been listening to Nancy Pelosi. We were, though, when Pelosi told Democrats that they should be willing to sacrifice their jobs by voting for ObamaCare. Yup, set the government takeover of healthcare into motion, even if they know it will cost them re-election.
Meanwhile, from the White House… top administration officials are reminding fence-sitting Democrats- the ones who originally supported healthcare reform but are nowconcerned about voter anger — that they are going to pay the price fortheir original votes no matter what. I guess the White House line issomething like: “Look, you’ve already voted for this thing once, soessentially you’re screwed. Changing your vote isn’t going to help younow .. the voters are going to remember your yes vote. We’ll make sureof it. So go ahead and vote with us again and then someday you can’reap the political benefits of actually passing a law.'” The officialssay that otherwise these lawmakers could be painted as “flip-floppers”for being “for” healthcare reform before they were “against” it.
They have until Easter to decide. That’s the timeline. Remember that these Democrats have been waiting topass this issue of healthcare reform for decades. They can’t wait anylonger. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that the real reason thatthey want to pass this bill by Easter is because they don’t want to gohome for Easter recess and be forced to face constituents. The Democrats are desperately trying to prevent a repeat of last summerwhen you people went out to townhall meetings and told these miscreantshow you really felt. This played a huge role in slowing down thisprocess. The Democrats cannot let this happen again. Plus, thepresident is going out of the country on an international trip at thattime and he won’t be able to push his healthcare agenda day-after-day.Losing this momentum would be critical for the bill’s passage.
No matter what eventually happens, Nancy Pelosi and her fellow Democrats will find a way to blame it on the Republicans. Nancy has already said,”What has happened in the past year in the United States Senate istotal obstruction by the Republican senators … So this isn’t justabout their rules, it’s about a decision that a party over there hasmade to stop everything.” Know what? At this point, maybe our countryWOULD be better off if Congress failed to get anything accomplished andstopped trying to “solve” all of our problems.
