Honor day the cradle of Western Civilization threw off Turkish yoke
An estimated 200,000 people thronged Fifth Avenue in Manhattan for the 76th annual Greek Independence Day Parade on Sunday, marking the 186th anniversary of Greek liberation from the Ottoman Turks.
Fittingly, the theme of the event was Religious Freedom, a right enshrined in Western Civilization thanks in large part to the philosophical principles of the Classical Greeks, and which is today under attack by the forces of politically correct intolerance.
Among the famous people in the parade were Anna Vissi, Greece’s leading recording artist, as well as His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church of America. The Orthodox Church was a major force behind the resistance that eventually dislodged the Turks from Greece and remains a powerful focus for ethnic Greek self-awareness. Orthodoxy also plays a leading role today in Russia’s renaissance and in Serbia continues to form the backbone of resistance to the New World Order. Even as the Greco-Americans and their friends were celebrating the event, Orthodox churches and monasteries in Kosovo are under siege from Islamists under the protection of their NATO allies. Greece once extended to all of what is now Turkey, which retains a small, hard-pressed Greek presence.
Even within Greece there is a massive Muslim immigrant invasion which threatens the survival of the nation, as it does all of Europe.
